Mobile Network Operators in Japan
Japan’s four major Mobile Network Operators are KDDI (au), Softbank, NTT docomo, and Rakuten Mobile.
As of July 2024, KDDI (au) and Softbank are known for providing relatively stable communication services. Despite being a major operator, NTT docomo has seen a decline in communication quality, making it difficult to connect during peak times.
Docomo’s current situation where many are complaining that they can’t connect – it’s bad that it’s several years behind its competitors – October 2023 (CNET Japan)
Rakuten Mobile, a newer player in the market since its launch in 2019, still faces network connectivity issues in certain areas.
Therefore, it is best to choose a SIM from either KDDI (au) or Softbank.
